The SCARPA Blackbird is a technical climbing shoe designed for climbers looking for maximum precision, support and stability on demanding footholds. Its innovative carbon-reinforced midsole creates a highly supportive platform that allows efficient power transfer and excellent stability when standing on small edges.

The 3D-molded Pebax® Rnew midsole, reinforced with carbon fiber and fiberglass, provides exceptional rigidity while maintaining a responsive feel. This construction helps reduce foot fatigue during long climbing sessions and allows the climber to maintain precision without requiring excessive downsizing.

The upper combines dual-layer microfiber and Alcantara®, providing a comfortable and adaptive fit. The perforated microfiber construction offers flexibility and breathability, while the Alcantara® lining enhances comfort and foot sensitivity.

The Z-Cord closure system allows precise adjustment around the foot. SCARPA's integrated tension systems work together to provide secure foot positioning and efficient power transfer from the toes toward the heel.

For maximum traction, the Blackbird features Vibram® XS Grip2 rubber. The M50 rubber toe rand provides flexibility and reliable performance during toe hooks, while the heel construction combines Vibram® XS Edge and XS Grip2 for secure heel hooks.

With its moderately downturned and moderately asymmetric shape, the Blackbird balances technical performance with usability. It is particularly suited to climbers who value strong edging performance, stability and reduced foot fatigue.

UPPER

The upper features a double-layer microfiber construction, with a perforated external layer designed to improve elasticity and provide an adaptive fit. An Alcantara® inner layer under the forefoot enhances softness and sensitivity. The heel incorporates a cushioned foam insert covered with Alcantara® to help reduce heel compression.

LACING

The Z-Cord System is integrated and stitched into the upper and connected to a surrounding band that wraps around and securely locks the foot. A customizable feather-shaped strap closure completes the system, allowing precise adjustment and a secure fit.

TENSION

PCB-TENSION
The Power Connection Band transfers power from the toe area toward the heel, helping maximize the efficiency of each movement.

PAF
The PAF System is an innovative heel construction designed to distribute force more evenly and reduce pressure on the Achilles tendon.

FWS-TENSION
The Foot Wrapping System wraps the foot from the toe to the heel. The tensioned rand supports the arch and integrates with the PAF system to provide a secure and precise fit.

MIDSOLE

The carbon-enhanced 3D-molded Pebax® midsole combines three materials:

• Pebax® Rnew – provides lightness and elasticity while reducing the use of fossil-based materials.

• Carbon fiber – provides stiffness and static rigidity.

• Fiberglass – contributes flexible rigidity and dynamic support.

Together, these materials create a supportive yet responsive midsole that provides high precision without requiring aggressive downsizing.

The midsole works in combination with the soft upper, allowing the shoe to adapt to the foot while reducing toe compression compared with conventional precision climbing shoes. This helps reduce foot fatigue during edging and improves climbing efficiency during longer sessions.

SOLE

The Blackbird features an M50 rubber toe rand, SCARPA’s softest and most elastic rubber compound. It follows the natural shape of the toes and improves comfort and performance during toe hooking.

The Vibram® XS Grip2 sole covers approximately one third of the shoe's length and provides an excellent combination of friction, sensitivity and support.

The integrated heel catch combines Vibram® XS Edge and XS Grip2 rubber components, creating a specialized heel shape designed to increase heel-hooking power. An additional side stabilizer helps increase foot stability.
