The device offers two friction modes. The regular mode provides smooth handling during standard belaying situations, while the high-friction mode delivers up to three times greater holding and stopping power. This allows improved control when using thinner ropes or rappelling.

Machined openings in the body reduce weight by approximately 30% compared with the original design without compromising functionality. The durable steel cable maintains its shape and helps prevent the device from becoming tangled between ropes during use.

Compatibility with ropes ranging from 7.7 to 11 mm makes the ATC-XP suitable for a wide range of climbing applications. Compact and easy to carry, it is a practical choice for climbers seeking a functional belay and rappel device.
